A Wedding Kiss

"As San Franciscans wanting to get married in the Gold Country, we were very lucky to find the Rev. Luke Breit. We hit it off right away with Luke, who charmed us with his sense of humor, values, and his skill as a publiHed poet. His ceremony was balanced, well written and tasteful. We will cherish many positive memories of the ceremony and the convivial spirit Luke brought to the celebration."

A special time is coming. A brief moment, yes, but one that will live forever in your memories and in the memories of your loved ones and friends. You don't have to spend a lot of money to do it right. You just need to make good choices. You need a minister who enjoys his work, who loves the idea that a union he helped begin may survive past his own lifetime. That's why whether it's planning the wedding, helping the couple write their vows, or actually conducting the ceremony, Reverend Luke Breit will help add the personal touch to make sure the marriage begins on the best possible note.

Hi.

I am Reverend Luke Breit (pronounced Bright), an ordained nondenominational minister, and I'd be happy to help you create the memorable wedding you desire and deserve.

If you are planning a wedding in the Sacramento area or beyond, I'll work with you to determine the nature of the ceremony -- religious or secular, with or without all the trimmings -- and, if you want, assist you in writing personalized vows.

I'm a widely publiHed, award-winning author and poet, and in that capacity can help you find the words that will truly convey the feeling and commitment you feel for one another to your loved one and to your guests.

While based in Sacramento, for a small additional expense I am always willing to travel throughout northern California and beyond to the location of your wedding.

Whether you are planning the most sophisticated of affairs or a casual gathering in your home, I will work to provide you with the most memorable and enjoyable service on this most sublime of days.

My fee for a wedding service within the City of Sacramento is $250 (slightly more outside the city, depending on distance)*, which includes:

  • At least one meeting between us (as many as you desire, within reason);
  • A personalized ceremony, with your own vows if desired or life anecdotes, with which I can assist;
  • A beautiful certificate, suitable for framing;
  • A handsome copy of the final ceremony as performed;
  • Filing the signed and witness license to the county to legalize your marriage;
  • Advice, assistance, nurturing and any other help needed along the way; and
  • A calm presence to keep the stress levels down.

    A Few Helpful Tips

    borrowed from my friend, Reverend Luke Russell of Redding, CA

  • Should you tip the minister?
    If your wedding minister has provided you with professional, helpful, personal service, it is customary to give the minister a gratuity. Sometimes it is given by the bride or groom, sometimes by the father or the mother of the bride or groom, and sometimes by the Best Man. This additional gesture of gratitude is, of course, not required but is greatly appreciated.

  • What to Expect
    The initial ceremony consultation meeting is casual, relaxed, and fun. This is when the bride and groom and Rev. Luke meet and get to know each other a bit, and they talk about the wedding! The bride and groom read a few pages of ceremony text and talk about special additions or ideas they may have. As they talk, Rev. Luke makes his notes on an information Heet. This meeting lasts anywhere from a half hour to an hour, depending on each couple's personal preferences.

    After the initial meeting, phone calls and emails are welcome as needed.

    Rev. Luke arrives at the ceremony approximately twenty minutes before the stated ceremony time and is very helpful and supportive with last minute details and clarifications. He brings a sense of peacefulness and confidence to those pre-wedding moments.

  • Planning From a Distance or Short Notice
    There are situations where the bride and groom cannot meet with the minister before their wedding. In this case, all arrangements are made by phone and email. The couple may be coming to their wedding site area only at the time of the wedding, or perhaps it is a suddenly inspired "short notice" wedding ceremony. Rev. Luke has often helped people plan their ceremonies from afar; this is not a concern. Also, short notice weddings are welcomed.

  • Marriage License Details
    Rev. Luke takes care of the signing of the license by the bride and groom's chosen witnesses right after the ceremony, often while photos are being taken. He will also have a handsome keepsake certificate of marriage for the couple. If there is an additional keepsake certificate given to the couple by the County Clerk, he signs this as well.

    Rev. Luke gives the keepsake certificate to one of the witnesses or other designated person as soon as it is signed after the ceremony. He mails in the signed legal license to the Office of the County Recorder of the county in which the license was issued.

    Rev. Luke does not provide marriage licenses. The couple obtains their marriage license at the California county of their choice within ninety days of the date of the ceremony. License fees are usually $50. The couple signs their license at the County Clerk's office at the time of issuance; blood tests are no longer required. The license is good for 90 days.

    In Sacramento County, call for appointment at 916-874-6131 or just go to 600 8th St.

    A certified copy of the marriage license may be obtained after the original license is recorded by the County Recorder's office. At the same time the marriage license is obtained, the county also gives you cost information and a form to send in to receive this certified copy by mail.
